A great question just came in from ISLANDS reader Jennifer Franz: “What boots should you take to Venice? And is it better to just bring a carry-on?” Since Venice has steady rain throughout the year and notoriously floods (they have to put benches across San Marco to walk on!), a good pair of waterproof boots is an Italian must. Venice really is one of the most romantic islands in the world. I was lucky enough to spend a couple days there on my honeymoon - and I can’t wait to go back. Getting lost in the maze of canals, eating a piece of pizza from every stand you pass, taking gondola rides passed Marco Polo and Vivaldi’s homes, wondering the entire time how a city could be built on water… Even the down moments are exciting.
