ISLANDS and Green Globe Partnership

Finding a sustainable island escape just got easier. ISLANDS has entered into a partnership with Green Globe Certification, the premier worldwide sustainability certification for tourism businesses.

Green Globe’s experts will collaborate with ISLANDS’ editors to define and maintain the sustainability mission in the magazine and on islands.com. Beginning in the November issue (on sale Oct. 6), the magazine will feature an ISLANDS / Green Globe Travel Tip, showcasing an island business that is both Green Globe recognized and ISLANDS approved.

“It’s a perfect partnership,” ISLANDS editor Eddy Patricelli says. “ISLANDS has been promoting sustainable travel since 1991. Joining with Green Globe emboldens this commitment, and allows us to guide readers to resorts that ensure an ongoing enjoyment of islands we love.”

The Green Globe brand and program traces its roots back to the United Nations Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992, where 182 Heads of State endorsed the Agenda 21 principles of Sustainable Development. Green Globe’s rigorous standards for sustainability issues such as energy efficiency, water management and land use, blend perfectly with ISLANDS commitment to authentic island travel.
